My Orchid collection is inspired by the cold and unearthly beauty of these flowers. Orchids seem to me like they could be brought to the Earth from somewhere else in the Universe. To find subjects for my paintings, I went to some Orchid society exhibits where I enjoyed their beauty and took photos of these unusual flowers. My Iris collection is inspired by walks through the Sugar House neighborhood. Taking a walk or drive through the neighborhood in spring will reveal a breathtaking assortment of sizes, colors, and shapes of Irises lining the streets. When I select a flower to paint I choose one with outstanding characteristics. Just like with people, flowers are unique and different. Each flower I paint is carefully chosen for its individuality.
